Design Week: Sockeye Open House @ Sockeye
Apr 10 @ 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

From the Design Portland website:

Swing by our newly expanded 2nd-floor studio space during Sockeye’s DWP open house! Our theme is “Process” – we’ll be showcasing the full journey of how we produce work, from sketches to ideation to final creation. Our gallery-style exhibit will feature graphic design, video, and web work from a variety of our clients, as well as our own recent rebrand.

We’ll be pouring beers from pFriem and Breakside and will have a silk screen station open for you to create your own tote. Stop by for a fun, interactive visit with our team and our space!

Design Week: Frames In Motion @ Oddfellows @ oddfellows
Apr 11 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

A rare look into the process of motion design/animation heroes Oddfellows!
From the Design Portland website:

Join our studio for an evening of drinks, chatter and an ‘exquisite corpse’ creation lead by our team of designers and animators. Oddfellows will give a short presentation about the studio and the principles of animation and design, followed by a hands-on collaborative animation project! Our staff will work alongside attendees while you hand-draw sequential frames and offer pointers on cel animation. A final video, remixing everyone’s final artwork into a seamless animation, will then be created to conclude the evening. Enjoy your very own world premiere on the big screen whilst sipping some libations. Attendees will walk away with a link to the final collaborative animation, as well as insight into the inner workings of our creative studio.

SIGGRAPH Screening + Shop Talk: Avengers @ Bagdad Theater + Backstage Bar
May 5 @ 2:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Join us for our first SIGGRAPH Screening, followed by some gushing and shop talk over a drink!  Avengers Endgame is the pick, and we’ll be screening it at the Bagdad Theater as a group on Sunday, May 5th at the 2:30 matinee ($8.50).  After the show, head around the corner to the Backstage Pub where we have the Kimball Room on reserve, and we’ll have a Happy Hour drink to chat over.

This is not a private screening nor is it limited to SIGGRAPH (VFX/PDX + 3DPDX) members – come one come all.  Also note that the Backstage is all ages and minors are admitted as long as you’re not seated at the bar.  Get your tickets for the film online here:
https://www.mcmenamins.com/bagdad-theater-pub

Again, careful to register for the Sunday May 5th at 2:30 show.  Also take a second and register for the meetup afterwards here:
https://siggraphscreening1.eventbrite.com

…just so I know how many to expect and so I can configure the room properly (or reserve the other room also).  This should be a great way to catch this film with some like minded artists and film fans.  Keep in mind, for planning purposes, the film is epic and clocks in at almost 3 hours.

We will make this a regular thing (generally the 2nd week a film opens, so as not to encroach on your opening week plans), and there’s already a second screening brewing for LAIKA’s Missing Link.  Hope to see you all at Avengers!  Woo-ha!
